Walk and Talk Therapy in Rockville, MD

Benefits of Outdoor Sessions

Benefits of Outdoor Sessions

Nature Reduces Stress Physiologically

Lower your cortisol levels and improve your mood through green environments which can lead you up to being in a more regulated, open state even before therapeutic work begins

Movement Unlocks What Sitting Can't

Some (especially teens) prefer side-by-side walking to the face-to-face contact, which telehealth or in-person office formats often consists of. The rhythm of walking also engages bilateral body movement, which supports emotional processing.

What Is Walk and Talk Therapy?
Walk and talk therapy is exactly what it sounds like — counseling that takes place outdoors, usually in a local park or natural setting, while you and your therapist walk or sit together outside. It's the same evidence-based therapeutic work you'd do in a traditional session, just in a different environment.

What to Expect
Sessions take place in outdoor public spaces in the Montgomery County area. You're welcome to wear comfortable clothes and shoes — the goal is to feel at ease, not to exercise.
I will always defer to your comfort level when it comes to your pace and topics discussed but if at any point you feel physically or emotionally uncomfortable, the session can be paused, rescheduled, or transitioned to telehealth.
Confidentiality is taken seriously even in public settings. However, there is risk that your session will be less private than an appointment in an enclosed sound-proof space. We will have a discussion how to navigate various scenarios and confidentiality issues prior to the outdoor session.
